Short answer: yes, Project Zomboid multiplayer is worth it if you're into it, and especially if you're learning from a friend. I still enjoy Zomboid solo, and multiplayer isn't really for me, but I can see the appeal. Build 42 multiplayer has been on the stable branch since July 2026.

Yes, Project Zomboid multiplayer is in Build 42 now. Version 42.20 came to the public stable branch on 29 July 2026 with multiplayer (Steam announcement), and The Indie Stone moved inventory, item transfers and timed actions server side and turned on an anti-cheat suite (The Indie Stone).
Who is Project Zomboid multiplayer worth it for?
Project Zomboid multiplayer is worth it for people who enjoy playing with others, and most of all for someone learning from a friend. If it's working better than multiplayer did before, I think it's an enjoyable experience to have with other people.
Why do I still play Project Zomboid solo?
I still play Project Zomboid solo because I just don't get into multiplayer. I enjoy these games on my own.
