Is DayZ worth playing in 2026?

Short answer: no, I don't think DayZ is worth it in 2026. I hate it. I tried it again recently because a friend of mine loves it, and standalone is still a janky, boring, monotonous game. I don't know how they made the standalone so subpar compared with what the mod was.
How does DayZ standalone compare with the DayZ mod?
DayZ standalone is far worse than the DayZ mod was, for me. My friend and I both played a lot of the mod when it first came out, around 2012. It was big enough in my life that I got into League of Legends through the people I was playing the DayZ mod with. Standalone doesn't come close to all the hours I put into the mod.
What's wrong with DayZ standalone?
What's wrong with DayZ standalone is the jank. One of my most recent Shorts is about 60 seconds of me clicking on stones, trying to work out which stone is a real stone you can pick up and which is just a graphical stone. That's the game.
Why did I try DayZ again?
I tried DayZ again about six weeks ago because my friend loves it. It didn't change my mind.
