Dota 2 or League of Legends in 2026?

Short answer: Dota 2 is fundamentally the better game, but League of Legends is the one someone in 2026 is more likely to enjoy. I think they're both outstanding. Which one suits you depends on how much time you've got, how much patience you've got to learn, and your tolerance for toxicity. I've got over 1,000 hours in Dota 2 on Steam and I've played League since 2012.
Is Dota 2 better than League of Legends?
Yes, I'd say Dota 2 is fundamentally the better game. League was kind of the dumbed-down successor to the original Dota, and Dota 2 still asks more of you. It needs more of your concentration than League does, and both already need a lot.
Why is League easier to enjoy in 2026?
League is the one someone in 2026 is more likely to enjoy just because of the state of gaming now. It's the same thing I think about Classic WoW (is WoW Forever just Classic?).
Is Dota 2 more toxic than League?
Dota 2 feels more toxic to me, mostly because voice comms are on as standard. Having players shouting abuse and swearing at me brings me down more than League, where I'm just listening to my music.
Which one do I still play?
I only play ARAM in League now. Both games are far too long for me, and they need too much of my concentration. ARAM is the version I still have time for (ARAM Mayhem vs ARAM).
