Is WoW Forever just Classic?
Short answer: no, WoW Forever isn't just Classic. I've played a bunch of Classic, and there's something about Forever that is different. I really wish I could describe exactly why, as that is kind of my job, but I can't put my finger on it. And I think it will replace Classic.
What's different in WoW Forever compared with Classic?
WoW Forever has changes Classic never had, even if the feel is harder to name. The ones I've hit myself in the beta: Undead can be Paladins, there are campfire buffs you can chase while you level, and there's a Divine Storm quest chain that ends in a cloak. Blizzard has also been reworking racial abilities in the beta development notes (15 October). None of that fully explains why it feels different, but it's not the same game.
Will WoW Forever replace Classic?
I think WoW Forever will replace Classic. Classic was good, and I've played it a bunch, but it's kind of out of place in what gaming is now. Classic was nostalgic. I don't think it fits where gaming has come, and I'm not just talking about graphics and engines and all of that nonsense. It's built for a group of people that don't exist anymore, because of everything we've experienced in the God knows how many years since.
Could I tell when the WoW Forever stress test was on?
Honestly, no, I couldn't tell when the stress test was on. I didn't notice any difference. There's always been a bunch of people, and I've always been fighting other people to get to things. Sometimes the game refreshes and moves you to a different layer: you're in the same spot, just not the exact same spot, like you've gone to a different place in the multiverse. So I didn't notice. Maybe I'm oblivious to these things.
